MP PAYS HOMAGE TO ‘HERO’ LOCAL SOILDER AT FUNDRAISER EVENT

On Friday 25 June Pat Glass MP attended the Help For Heroes fundraising event at Dipton Working men's club in honour of Sapper Daryn Roy, who was sadly killed in Afghanistan on May 3rd.

The event raised over £1, 550 for Help for Heroes, a charity that raises money to help the wounded in Britain's current conflicts.

Guests wore 1940s fancy dress and watched a performance by Maggie Newman's World War 2 tribute show.

Pat said:

"It is clear that Daryn was a bright and kind young man who was excelling in his career with the army. He was immensely proud and passionate about serving in the army, and I am very proud of him for the courageous and heroic behaviour that he displayed while serving our country. "

The event coincided with the weekend of Armed Forces Day on Saturday 26th June. Across the country, tributes were paid to the role of the Royal Navy, the Army and the Royal Air Force.

Pat said:

"I would like to thank all those serving in the armed forces from North West Durham and the UK as a whole for their contribution to the success of Britain's armed forces abroad.

Armed Forces Day is a fantastic opportunity to show our respect for our brave servicemen and women.

Our troops serve Britain with great courage and professionalism, and I am delighted that this day gives us all the opportunity to thank them and come and show our appreciation."
